To be an artist is to be innovative and expressive. I use my artwork to create meaning and sense of the world around me. However, I believe art is everything in the world. Over the past six years of my work, I observed repetitive constants with my art: color, movement, and the theme of nostalgia. I produce several works incorporating the use of color blending. I have always been fascinated with color theory and how viewers translate color with moods, characters, and time. The “Water Lily Pond” by Claude Monet was one of the first paintings where color blending was something I responded to and began to try. Monet summed up my interaction perfectly: “Color is my daylong obsession, joy, and torment.” In all my works, ranging from painting to ceramics, hand- building, I use color to facilitate meaning to my art pieces. Along with color, I am intrigued with movement. The beauty of nature and organic forms seem to move naturally is what I gravitate towards. Overall, how I process towards my next piece of art is by reflecting on past events. A quote from my father has stuck with me over the years: “The world will keep moving with or without you.” Letting go of feelings and memories is difficult for me. I believe my artwork conveys the theme of nostalgia and the fragility of having time. I find myself painting memories of places I traveled and emotions I have with my past. Creating my artwork reveals a visual voice I sometimes cannot articulate. I find music to be the one consistent tool I use to create my artwork. Dissecting song lyrics to create a visual representation of the song for myself has been a life long obsession of mine. I don't believe I will ever stop being influenced by my favorite lyricists to create artwork.
